TT added three more medals at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, yesterday. Keshorn Walcott took silver in the men's javelin, the men's 4x400m team claimed bronze and cyclist Teniel Campbell grabbed another silver medal.

TT now have 13 medals – two gold, eight silver and three bronze.

Walcott, a two-time Olympic medallist, had a top throw of 83.55 metres as the Caribbean took the top three places. Walcott's top throw came on his first attempt, which was followed by a 82.92m throw and a 81.44m effort. After fouling his fourth and fifth attempts, he ended with a 75.54m attempt.

Grenadian Anderson Peters achieved a Pan American record with an effort of 87.31m on his first throw. Peters was in scintillating form as his 85.90m heave in the fourth round was also enough to get him on top the podium. Albert Reynolds of St Lucia grabbed bronze landing the spear 82.19m. Shakeil Waithe of TT had to settle for sixth position after throwing 76.15m on his third attempt.

The TT men's 4x400m relay team were trying to replicate their performance that saw them win gold at the 2019 IAAF World Relays in May. However, the quartet of Dwight St Hillaire, Jereem Richards, Deon Lendore and Machel Cedenio were third in a time of three minutes, 02.25 seconds (3:02.25). Winning gold were Colombia in 3:01.41 and USA claimed silver in 3:01.72.

Campbell won this country's first medal of the day. She ended second in the women's road race in a time of 2:19:50, following up her silver medal performance in the women's time trial on Wednesday. Alexi Costa also represented TT ending 21st in 2:20:24 among the 36 cyclists that completed the race. Taking gold was Cuban Arlenis Sierra in 2:19:49 and Mexican Lizbeth Salazar snatched bronze in 2:19:50.

It was a tough time for the TT cyclists in the men's road race as Akil Campbell, Tyler Cole, Kemp Orosco and Jovian Gomez did not finish the race that included 50 people.

In golf, TT's Ysabelle Lawrence is currently in 29th position with a score of 239 after round three in the women's individual in the field of 31 competitors. Leading the pack is American Emilia Migliaccio with 206. The fourth and final round will be contested from 9 am, today.

The TT men's hockey team ended fifth overall with a narrow 2-1 win over Cuba in the fifth place playoff. TT jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a goal by captain Marcus James in the tenth minute and Teague Marcano in the 17th, before Cuba pulled a goal back in the 22nd minute through Oscar Iraidys Calderon.

In swimming, Gabriela Donahue did not advance past the heats of the women's 200m individual medley after finishing seventh and last in 2:27.66 in heat two.
