Doha, November 01 (QNA) - The Qatari capital city of Doha is set to host the 2016 Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly on November 15 and 16, 2016.

The meeting will feature the participation of more than 1000 personalities representing 206 National Olympic Committees and International Sport Federations, according to Qatar Olympic Committee.

A year after selecting Doha to host the 21st ANOC General Assembly meeting during the previous meeting held in Washington DC., all lights will be shed once again on Doha as Qatar continues to establish itself as a global sports hub.

Doha will also host the 2016 ANOC Awards Ceremony. ANOC Awards for the Best Male and Best Female of Rio 2016 will be presented while there will also be awards for the Best Male Team and Best Female Team of Rio 2016.

In addition, there will be the ANOC Award for the Best NOC of Rio 2016, ANOC Award for the most Inspirational Performance and the ANOC Award for Inspiring Hope through Sport as well as the ANOC Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Olympic Movement and ANOC Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement.

ANOC is the umbrella organization responsible for protecting and advancing the interests of the world’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and for supporting their mission to promote the Olympic Values worldwide. Over the last 35 years, the number of NOCs recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and represented by ANOC has risen to 206.

ANOC also aims to strengthen the relationships between the NOCs and the Olympic Family for the benefit of the entire Olympic Movement. By facilitating and opening up a new dialogue, ANOC is committed to forging more productive and collaborative working relationships between NOCs and International Federations (IFs) in particular.

ANOC also has a number of strong relationships with other organizations including UNESCO. ANOC has representatives in a number of IOC Commissions, in particular in the Coordination Commissions for Olympic Games; the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA); the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS); and the International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS(.

ANOC was established in June 1979 during the Constitutive General Assembly in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mario Vazquez Rana (Mexico) served as ANOC President for nearly 33 years, before being succeeded by the current President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah (Kuwait), in April 2012.

ANOC's headquarters was located in Paris between 1982 and 2010 before moving to the Olympic capital, Lausanne, in May 2010. (QNA)
